THE FINAL TWO SHOWS OF LIVE MUSIC IN IRVINE
After a final request to Dan Hedigan, CEO of Five Point and Oliver Chi, City Manager of Irvine, California, Live Nation was told that pipes in the ground are more important than what the people of Irvine want and there will not be a season in 2024.
Great Park Chairman Mike Carroll and Mayor Farrha Khan attempted to intervene, but were thwarted by the City Manager who is working closely with Councilwoman Kathleen Treseder to try to force LiveNation out of Irvine.
Councilwoman Tammy Kim was conflicted in her loyalties because lately she has been working with Treseder on her extreme proposals for the City including a proposal to raise the minimum wage in Irvine next week, a move which will cost Irvine's small businesses Millions of Dollars. Critics of the proposal have pointed out that Treseder, a mushroom scientist at UCI and her husband make over 300% more than the UCI median income and have never signed a paycheck, but feel that they know better than the 1,400 small businesses in Irvine do. Councilwoman Kim, the Executive Director of a Korean non-profit in Irvine, wrote the proposal to exempt non-profits.
Longtime political observers in Irvine have called the Kim-Treseder Alliance "the worst thing to happen in Irvine." After Treseder and Kim attempted to form an Amphitheater SubCommittee and give a no bid exclusive contract to the Pacific Symphony, but were rebuffed by their colleagues, both have worked with the City Manager to kill live music in Irvine.
This time it seems to have worked. According to inside sources, Hedigan at FivePoint has refused to look at ways to install infrastructure to allow the next season to continue and Chi has encouraged Hedigan to not assist Live Nation.
One fan said, "Before Oliver Chi was the City Manager of Irvine, we had four separate votes to build a world class amphitheater at the Great Park, now we have nothing."
LiveNation could not bee reached for comment as to how soon the existing venue would be dismantled.
