Comment Policy

The Irvine City News staff invites reader participation and encourages civil and thoughtful dialogue through comment submissions. It is our policy to disapprove uncivil and unproductive commentary and to ban those who continue to post comments that don’t meet this requirement.

To keep the conversation constructive, we ask that all commenters follow these guidelines:

Be respectful. Disagree with ideas, not people. Personal attacks, insults, and harassment directed at other commenters, staff, or individuals mentioned in articles will be removed.

Stay on topic. Comments should relate to the article or issue being discussed. Off-topic posts may be removed without notice.

No hate speech. Comments that are discriminatory based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or national origin will be removed immediately.

No spam or self-promotion. Repeated promotional posts, links to unrelated websites, and solicitations are not permitted.

No misinformation. Comments that contain demonstrably false statements or deliberately misleading information may be removed at the editors’ discretion.

Use your real identity. We encourage commenters to post under their real names. Anonymous comments are permitted but held to the same standards as all others.

Moderation is final. Irvine City News reserves the right to remove any comment and ban any commenter at any time, for any reason, without notice or explanation. Decisions by our editors are final.

By posting a comment on Irvine City News, you agree to these terms. Questions about this policy can be directed to the editorial staff.
