Last night, three new members of the Irvine City Council were sworn-in (Melinda Liu, William Go, and James Mai), as well as re-elected Councilmember Mike Carroll and newly elected Mayor Larry Agran, who join Councilmember Kathleen Treseder who is in the middle of a four-year term. City Hall was filled with community leaders and friends and families of the new Councilmembers, including former Mayor Christina Shea, former Vice Mayor Anthony Kuo, and recently departing Councilmember Tammy Kim. Kim is not returning to the Council, having been defeated by Agran for mayor in November. Of note was an unusual deadlock over who would be the ceremonial Vice Mayor for the ensuing term.
