IRVINE HIGH CELEBRATES 50th ANNIVERSARY and CHRISTENS NEW ON-CAMPUS THEATRE

On Friday, Irvine High School celebrated its 50th anniversary with the grand opening of their new Performing Arts Center.

A packed house including current and former faculty members were dazzled with performances by the school's Theatre Arts program, choirs, dance team, Wind Symphony, and Philharmonic. Attendees at a sold-out event also enjoyed talents from alumni performers jazz pianist Jeremy Siskind and vocalist Grace Simmons.

Vice Mayor James Mai and Irvine Unified School District Board of Education President Katie McEwen offered congratulatory remarks to an audience that included the IUSD Board of Education former Mayor Farrah Khan, former Vice Mayor Anthony Kuo, and former Board of Education Member Paul Bokota.

The Performing Arts Center, funded by Measure E, brings Irvine High inline with other district schools to "ensure all students, not just those in newer neighborhoods, have access to modern learning environments and technology," IUSD's website said. In addition to the theatre, Measure E funded improvements to classroom buildings M and WL, and a science lab upgrade of building SLG.
