At tonight's Irvine City Council Meeting, several of Kathleen Treseder's supporters, including Youssef Kaddeche, Treseder's appointee to the Irvine Transportation Commission, called for the construction of 20,000 units in the Irvine Spectrum with no parking requirements. In their explanation, no parking means no cars, public transportation, and walking.
Critics of the proposal have said, "to believe that a family who can afford to live in Irvine could do so without a car represents just how extreme Treseder and her supporters truly are."
Leading transportation analysts have called the proposal "unsophisticated" and "academic but not practical."
Irvine City News first talked about this proposal when Kaddeche, also an author at the Irvine Watchdog Blog, a local blog affiliated with failed political candidate Branda Lin, wrote an op-ed regarding the no parking proposal.
Because the item was brought up as part of the public comment, none of the other Council members spoke to the issue. Check back in to Irvine City News for further coverage.
