IRVINE, Calif., Aug. 31, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — Regulatory affairs professionals work at the interface of business and government, where regulations are often strict and legislation is ever-changing. The continually evolving regulatory environment is driving a demand for professionals who have a deep understanding of government regulations, can interpret these regulations across a product lifecycle and demonstrate its use across various departments within an organization. The University of California, Irvine Extension, in partnership with the University of California, Irvine Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, announces a new Regulatory Affairs and Compliance Certificate Program designed to help meet the expanding need for regulatory affairs professionals. This certificate program offers specialized coursework for two tracks of studies: pharmaceuticals (drugs and biologics) and medical devices.

“The ability to guide organizations through the complicated regulatory process is vital to a company’s bottom line and leadership position in the marketplace,” said Dave Dimas, Ph.D., director of engineering, sciences, and information technology at UC Irvine Extension. “This certificate program not only benefits students new to the pharmaceutical and/or medical device industries, but is also designed for current industry professionals with focused regulatory or compliance experience looking to gain skills for job advancement opportunities.”

Offered for the first time, the “Introduction to Regulatory Compliance for Drugs, Biologics, and Medical Devices” course is geared for participants of both tracks. This required online course provides an introduction to the field of regulatory affairs and lays a framework for subsequent courses. Topics of study include: laws and regulations governing healthcare products, including drugs, biologics, dietary supplements, and medical devices. Instruction begins Sept.28.

UC Irvine Extension is registered with the Regulatory Affairs Professionals Society (RAPS) as a provider for professional development.
