Irvine Swim League teams continue to show progress
Deerfield swims with Greentree
In their last home meet of the season, the Greentree Gators faced off with one of their oldest rivals in the Irvine Swim League on Saturday. Inclement weather cut the meet short. The Gators swept all of the medley relays and earned significant time improvements.
In the 5-6 age group, Isaiah Bahadoor earned first place in all of his individual events, and Drew Bautista earned first in breaststroke. Placing in the top three was Sierra Marlin.
In the 7-8 age group, Sam Bowman placed first in all of his events. Julia Bautista won butterfly and freestyle events. Emma Beliveau earned firsts in backstroke and breaststroke and Sean Dory placed first in butterfly. Also placing in the top three were Emma Aptin and Hannah Radmilovich.
In the 9-10 age group, Natalie Bautista and Luke Witting placed first in all of their individual events. Tate Fitzgerald earned first in butterfly and backstroke. Also earning firsts were Samantha Lai and Madison Lee. Ethan France earned top three in all of his individual events.
Brad France, who placed first in all of his individual events, led the 11-12 age group. Also earning firsts were Mandy Lagerlof and Iris Wang. Placing in the top three was Noah Bahadoor.
In the 13-14 age group, Anthony Fitzgerald, Alex King and Juliana Witting earned first place in their individual events. Also earning firsts included Tessa Lagerlof, Jack Marlin and Kayla Yamamoto.
Placing in the top three of his events was David Marlin.
In the 15-18 age group, Riki Yamamoto dominated with all firsts. Zack Bird swam strong as he placed first in butterfly and backstroke. Placing top three in all of their events were Mo Bourdi, Logan Dory, Emerald Eaton and Faithe.
Swimmers placing in more than one event were Charlie Bowman, Megan Armstrong, Sam Bullis, Zach Beliveau, Michaela Cates, Jake Clanton, Trey Clanton, Drew Clanton, Kendall Colbert, Kelly Dory, Sam Estrick, Nathan Estrick, Charlotte German, Sophia Gibson, Tessa Lagerlof, Sydney Marlin, Kinley Moshenko and Christopher Nguyen.

Deerfield Bluefin swimmers with three first-place finishes in their individual events were Ethan Diedricks, Allyson Kusuma and Arista Kusuma.
Those with two first-place finishes included Paris Major and Christine Weyers. Johanna Godfrey had one first-place finish.
Swimmers who earned three time improvements were Isabella Chen, Situ Chintakunta, Julian Diedricks, Casey Grummer, Aditya Guntupalli, Auriyon Khosravi, Finn Kopczynski, Siya Madan, Agasti Nath, Dilip Nath, Kirill Nath, Maanasa Panuganti, Alex Phan, Jillian Rucker, Justin Seto, Ariel Tsai, Joshua Tu and Edward Vanyekgambsky.

Deerfield Bluefins swimmers earned 14 first-place blue ribbons and 171 individual time improvements.
Heritage Park takes on Courtside
Four Heritage Park Seal long-standing records were broken in the meet.
Gavin Lee broke the 7-8 age group 25 butterfly record in a time of 16.87 and the 25 freestyle mark in 15.25. Lee also won the breaststroke event.
Caleb Park broke the 13-14 age group 50 backstroke record in 27.28 and the 100 individual medley mark in 1:00.13. Park also won the breaststroke event in his age group.
Other outstanding first-place swims came from Sierra Doden, Justin Ho, Anthony Baik and Davy Luoma in the 15-18 mixed medley relay, Adhit Natla in the 5-6 age group boys 25 backstroke and freestyle, Ethan Ongkeko in the boys 9-10 age group 50 backstroke, Sunny Wang in the girls 9-10 age group 100 individual medley, Kaitlyn Suk in the 11-12 girls 100 individual medley and Corina Lee in the girls 11-12 age group 50 breaststroke.
Also, Sierra Doden in the girls 15-18 age group 50 breaststroke, Camry Kardos in the 15-18 50 freestyle, the team of Ryan Hayes, Audrey Mariano, Ayla Puente and Seonghoon Lee in the 7-9 mixed 100 freestyle relay, the team of Arvin Ding, Esmar Walkman, Shaun Walkman and Ryan Yu in the 11-12 mixed 200 freestyle relay, Andy Luoma Lawrence Lai, Camryn Kardos and Kyle Pendleton in the 15-18 mixed 200 freestyle relay and the team of Heeyon Kim, Cindy Ding, Rachel How and Matthew Yu in the 9-10 mixed 200 freestyle relay.
Courtside had many outstanding swims and several swimmers qualifying for the championships.
Winning all of their individual events were Hannah McCllrath, Jenna Morley, Devin Morrison, Owen Morrison, Ari Powell, Paige Press and Dylan Spencer.
Placing in the top three in each of their events were Michael Abshier, Samantha Bailey, Toubby Chau, Claire Chow, Nicholas Hynh, Kate Jensen, Parker Mallough, Keegan McCarthy, Jake Morrison, Luke Morrison, Caroline Parker, Paige Riches and Kenzie Sellers.
The 9-10 mixed medley relay team of Michael Abshier, Claire Chow, Devin Morrison and Dylan Spencer set a team record and finished first.
Devin Morrison set team records in the 9-10 girls 50 backstroke and 50 freestyle.
Swimmers in the 5-6 age group who improved their times in all of their individual events were Max Lender and Ari Powell.
For the 7-8 age group, Angelina Abshier, Samantha Bailey, Luke Morrison and Kai Orozco improved in all of their races.
Those to improve in the 9-10 age group were Arya Esfahani, Tony Foo, Cindy Hong, Devin Morrison and Corey Okamoto.
For the 11-12 age group, Will Wraith, Brian Yu, Owen Morrison, Jaehoon An and Ally Chau
For the 13-14 age group, improving all of their times were Tara Esfahani, Alexis Gopaul, Nicholas Huynh, Alex Ibasitas, Kate Jensen, Shane Saito, Tyler Winchester and Katie Mirmak.
For the 15-18 age group, Collin Press set a new Stingrays team record in the boys 15-18 age group 50 freestyle.
The following swimmers also posted impressive time improvements.
Ally Chau improved 43 seconds in the 100 individual medley, Rosie Chhabria improved 11 seconds in the 25 breaststroke, Grace Chow improved 14 seconds in the 25 butterfly and Preston Cramer improved six seconds in the same event.
Arya Esfahani improved six seconds on the 50 butterfly, Niko Honda improved 10 seconds in the 100 individual medley, Micah Kim improved 11 seconds in the 50 breaststroke and Max Lender improved 35 seconds in the 25 butterfly.
Corey Okamoto improved his 50 breaststroke time by six seconds, Scott Riches improved 16 seconds in the 100 individual medley, Wesley Sellers improved his 25 butterfly race by 13 seconds and Nikhil Sherman also bettered his 25 butterfly time by nearly six seconds.
Sran Tanjisiri improved 21 seconds in the 100 individual medley, Joseph Wraith improved his 25 freestyle by 11 seconds, Brad Vu improved 10 seconds on the 50 butterfly and Brian Yu improved his time by seven seconds in the same event.
Northpark goes up against Northwood Pointe
The Northpark Riptide was hosted by the Northwood Pointe Flash Saturday in another great meet.
Tiffany Chen broke two records for Northpark.
She set marks in the 15-18 age group backstroke event with a time of 31.38 and then broke her own time in the butterfly with a time of 29.31.
Mixed 100 medley relays that took first place in their age groups were Noah Deshler, Dylan Park, Kylie Park and Ryan Lezak for the 5-6 age group and Simon Sharestan, Sophie Polay, Delaney Flynn and Derek Hitchens for the 7-8 age group.
Improved times in the butterfly event were turned in by Giselle Looney, Micah Lee, Connor McAlister, Chloe Loscialpo, Grace Lin, Becca Nazareth, Troy Trinh, Bronson Mejia, Noah Lee, Daniel Shim, Brendan Connelly, Alex Dourbetas and Alyssa Yang.
The most notable time improvements in the backstroke were Alice Hoorizadeh, Jackson Ertel, Louie Hoorizadeh, Simon Sharestan, Bronson Mejia and brothers Brendan and Dean Connelly.
Maggie Mcguire was first in the 9-10 age group individual medley, Ryan Graves came in first in the 9-10 individual medley and Joaquin Le-Pedroza won the 11-12 individual medley.
Improvements in the breaststroke were turned in by Liana Caiozzo, Jerome King and Cameron Ettafagh.
Swimmers who took first place in the freestyle while also qualifying their times were Adrienne Tang, Carson Eich, Kendall Flynn, Joaquin Le-Pedroza and Tiffany Chen.
Five of the mixed 100 freestyle relay teams took first place.
In the 5-6 age group it was the team of Emma Trinh, Giselle Looney and siblings Jackson and Catherine Ertel.
Winners in the 7-8 age group were Ryan Park, Ryan Garbalosa, Alexa Chandler and Carson Eich.
Also placing first were the 9-10 age group team of Kendall Flynn, Nathan Miranda, Andrew Duberow and Maggie Mcguire, the 11-12 group team of Lauren Freedman, Nicholas Caiozzo, Konner Lee and Joaquin Le-Pedroza and the 15-18 age group team of Alex Pai, Grant Lissoy, James Farol and Tiffany Chen.
Team spirits ran high as the Northwood Pointe Flash hosted its final home meet of the season against Northpark Riptide.
Northwood Pointe swimmers broke three individual records, one team record and took first place in 32 events.
Swimmers successfully posted 159 time improvements as well as 91 championships qualifying times.
For team relays, Justin Pyne, Mark Kim, Kaitlyn Spellman, and Jonathan Mah set the team record and won first place for the mixed 13-14 age group 200-yard freestyle.
Several age groups won first place in the mixed 200-yard medley, including the 9-10 age group team of Kaitlyn Kong, Christopher Leung, Taylor Inouye and Brandon Tung, 11-12 age group team of Oliver Allen, Sarah Buting, Emily Odom and Jeremy Mah, the 13-14 age group team of Britney Zhang, Sean Doan, Joshua Potter and Ashleigh Spellman and the 15-18 age group team of JJ Hopper, Alexander Webster, Michael Harper and Jack Peabody.
Christopher Leung broke his own previous record for the boys 9-10 age group 50-yard freestyle and 50-yard breaststroke, as well as won all of his events.
Justin Pyne set the record for the boys 13-14 age group 50-yard breaststroke and won two of his individual events.
Sarah Buting and Kaitlyn Spellman took first place in all of their events.
Other swimmers who earned first place included Cameron Hsieh, Taylor Inouye, Ethan Lan, Jeremy Mah, Emily Odom, Joshua Potter, Ashleigh Spellman, Katya Tolkachev, Alexander Webster, Emy Yokota and Dylan Zuo.
Oak Creek takes on Park Paseo
The Park Paseo Northstars swam a strong meet against the Oak Creek Orcas, turning in 166 time improvements.
The meet was cut short due to thunderstorms, canceling the freestyle races for all swimmers age 13 and up, plus all freestyle relays.
For the fourth straight meet, the 5-6 age group mixed medley relay team of Andre Gao, Everett Chen, Deron Hsia and Adina Ganz gave the Northstars a victory in the opening race.
Thirty-six Northstars turned in a total of 77 swim league championship qualifying times, including 17 new times and three new swimmers (Alex Chin, Mary Grannis-Vu and Isabel De Souza). It brought the team total to 51 swimmers qualified in 150 events.
Nyah Lin, Sydney Lin and Delaney Palmer placed first in all of their events, earning qualifying times in every one.
Swimmers placing in the top three and qualifying in all of their individual events included Everett Chen, Paige Condy, Sasha Constandse, Jonathan Cooper, Andre Gao, Leo Giessmann, Brynna Hsia, Deron Hsia, Jalen Hsia, Erin Kim, Jonathan Kuo, Tyler Lin, Spencer Sellwood, Andrew Teh and Esteban Torres.
Erin Chen and Adina Ganz each placed in all of their events and earned one qualifying time.
The 5-6 age group saw several double-digit time improvements, led by Summer Wilson, who dropped 34.31 seconds in backstroke. Three swimmers in the group had two double-digit drops, including Maddie Dasilva (-21.62 in backstroke and -23.09 in breaststroke), Colin Rivera (-10.34 in butterfly and -17.84 in freestyle) and Jack Dickman (-14.21 in backstroke and -10.37 in breaststroke).
Enoch Zeng took 16.31 seconds off his butterfly time.
Northstars with time improvements in all three events included Mia Alvarez, Benjamin Chen, Lauren Giglia, Uma Joshi, Dhruv Kagatimath, Dean Knoell, Sean Ly, Stella Park, Shervin Shahriary and Lily Ye.
The Oak Creek Orcas swam a great meet against the Paseo Park Northstars.
Evan Wang set a team record in the 9-10 age group boys 50 backstroke and took first place with a time of 34.82.
Oak Creek’s best two time improvements of the day were from Kaitlyn Hoang, who finished third in the 5-6 age group girls 25 breaststroke and improved her time by more than 19 seconds, and Collin Watanabe, who improved more than eight seconds in the 7-8 age group boys 25 backstroke.
Many Orcas improved their times enough to qualify for league championships.
They included Pierson Ostrander, Jason Le, Brandon Lee, Megan Lee, Aryan Mathur, Justin Pham, Matthew Tien and Blake Waller.No
North Irvine improve times
The North Irvine Knights had a great meet with Portola Springs.
The Knights continued with time improvements, team records and top finishes.
Eighty-five Knights swimmers posted time improvements for a total of 145 new best times in all. Swimmers with time improvements in three individual events were Nicholas Bower, Kirsten Cabrera, Ethan Cheng, Angelina Choi, Kenny Huh, Kim Huynh, Ryan Ju, Danny Kim, Riley Law, Aaron Ly, Nicole Mukogawa, Isabel Sanson, Yoochan Shim, Matt Winer and Abe Yoo.
Several Knights achieved new heights and achieved Irvine Swim League qualifying times. The Knights now have 52 swimmers with one or more qualifying times. Sydney Bower, Ava Winer and Brandon Yacker all achieved qualifying times.
Not only did the North Irvine 9-10 age group girls sweep the 100 individual medley event, but three swimmers also beat the previous team record.
Sherrie Ruan, Kim Huynh and Emma Sanson earned the distinction with Ruan finishing first in 1:24.28.
In the girls 9-10 age group, Kim Huynh set a new record in the 50 freestyle event in a time of 32.28.
Haley Truong broke another record, and beat one of her own. She now holds all five individual records in the 11-12 girls age group. She set bests in the 50 breaststroke (38.45) and in the 50 freestyle (29.20).
In the girls 13-14 age group, Gabi Taylor beat her own record in the 50 breaststroke event with a time of 35.75.
The Knights posted 88 individual top-three finishes including 28 individual first-place finishes and a strong first-place finish for the mixed 9-10 age group relay team of Kim Huynh, Dylan Bertino, Emma Sanson and Nick Grulke.
Quail Hill and South Irvine swim strong
The Quail Hill Barracudas clarimed first and third place in four of six medley relays and first place in three of six freestyle relays in their meet with South Irvine at University High.
Team records were broken in two relays and by eight individual swimmers.
The 7-8 freestyle relay team, which included swimmers Jocelyn Tsai, Lucus Morgan, Kavin Greaser and Justin Ng, beat the team record from the last meet.
Another team record was broken by the 11-12 age group freestyle relay team with Zachary Waddell, Kai Yoshizaki, Savanna Cruz and Caedon Ng.
Breaking individual records were Bella Cook in the breaststroke, Ariel Lin in the freestyle and butterfly, Hannah Jin in the backstroke, Caedon Ng in the butterfly and freestyle and Vanessa Yang in the breaststroke.
The team earned 146 time improvments.
Barracudas earning first-place finishes in butterfly were Srikar Kesanan, Bella Cook, Ariel Lin, Alexandra Lindenberg, Dean Ko, Savanna Cruz, Caedon Ng, Kaila Ennen James Koga and Alexandra Swardstrom. Those who won backstroke events included Zoe Pumerantz, Srikar Kesanan, Isabella Mansouri, Daneel Polakoff, Alexandra Lindenberg, Michael McDonald, Hannah Jin and Caedon Ng.
Ai Taguchi, Dean Ko, Hannah Jin, Brett Ennen, Kaila Ennen, Daniel Jin and Ally Swardstrom came in first in individual medley races.
Those winning breaststroke events were Bella Cook, Srikar Kesanan, Ariel Lin, Ai Taguchi, Phillipe Lalonde, Zachary Waddell, Celine Tran and Vanessa Yang.
Bella Cook, Ariel Lin, Alexandra Lindenberg, Dean Ko, Caedon Ng, Kaila Ennen, Daniel Jin and Vanessa Yang came in first in freestyle events.
Quail Hill swimmers to place in the top six in one or more events were Zoe Pumaerantz, Carson Cruz, Minhkha Le, Callie Dean, Alexia Jenkins, Laynie Dougherty, Henna Lee, Sophie Lai, Cody Wicker, Devin Shao, Hudson Gaw, Tyler Chandler, Lucca Clouthier, Jonas Kim, Brycen Yoon, Jay Greaser, Isabella Mansouri, Addison Lindenberg, Jocelyn Tsai and Daneel Polakoff.

The South Irvine Dolphins continued to show improvement and post championship qualifying times as they took on the Quail Hill Barracudas.
In the boys 7-8 age group, Nathan Wu won the 25 butterfly, breaststroke and freestyle.
Justin Zhang took 2.19 seconds off his time to win the boys 5-6 age group freestyle.
In the girls 11-12 age group, Jean Meyer won the 50 breaststroke and Kyra Dugan won the 50 freestyle.
Calvin Lee was first in the boys 13-14 age group backstroke event and Lukas Johansson won the boys 13-14 breaststroke.
The 15-18 age group won several events, including Phillip Wright in the boys butterfly and backstroke, Julia Knoell in the girls backstroke, Eric Mumm in the boys individual medley, Andrew Knoell in the boys breaststroke and Judson Balding in boys freestyle, as well as the mixed medley and the mixed freestyle relays.
Other triumphant relay teams included Ashley Kwan, Halle Ewing, Nathan Wu and Julia Putnam in the 7-8 mixed freestyle, Kian Babaeian, Tucker Blum, Haley Edwards, and Chase Zanck in the 13-14 mixed freestyle and Calvin Lee, Lukas Johanssen, Julian Hernandez and Haley Edwards in the 13-14 mixed medley.
Turtle Rock Broadmoor takes on College Park
The Turtle Rock Broadmoor Shark swimmers earned 28 first-place finishes, 59 championship qualifying times and set two team records.
Alondra Ortiz set a team record in the girls 13-14 age group backstroke (30.22) and Holden Levine topped his own mark in the boys 7-8 backstroke (16.28).
The Sharks performed well in relays, taking four firsts.
Those came in the 7-8 age group mixed freestyle with Holden Levine, Reagan Buchanan, Owen Capron and Dylan Rosmann and the 15-18 age group with Anne Jang, Nathan Ohashi, Spencer Kubit and Judd Howard.
The mixed medley 9-10 age group team of Brandon McMullens, Mirabella Levine, Dylan Soong and Andrew Capron and the 13-14 age group team of Alondra Ortiz, Andrew Li, Sidney Miller, Jeffrey Hertzog also won races.
Howard, Claire Jang, Levine, Sydney Rosmann and Abigail Wang all won all of their individual races.
Others earning firsts included Buchanan, Capron, Hunter Hertstein, Anne Jang, Levine, Miller, Rosmann and Madison Wakita.
Overall, Shark swimmers earned 93 individual time improvements, led by Connor Ghaznavi and Jacob Liu, who improved in all their events for the second week in a row.
Others who improved in all their events were Ethan Ball, Capron, Gwenyth Carpenter, Elise Feuerborn, Sophia Renger, Leah Schulman, Amber Wang, and Jadon Wang.
Julia Ball and Elizabeth Renger both notched improvements of greater than 20 seconds.
The College Park Splash hosted the Turtle Rock Sharks on Saturday.
Dylan McCahill broke his own team record in the 7-8 age group freestyle with a time of 14.50.
The meet started strong for the Splash with a win in the 5-6 age group mixed medley relay consisting of team members Addison Nelson, Taylor Thongintra, Logan Macy, and Sasha Clarke.
College Park went on to take first place in the 7-8, 11-12, and 15-18 mixed medley relays, as well as second place in the 9-10 and 13-14 age groups.
The freestyle relay teams continued the Splash’s strong showing on Saturday by taking home blue ribbons in the 5-6 age group (Brooke Stuckey, Midori De Los Santos, Ella Jarzyna and Thomas Ahn), 9-10 age group (Ethan MacVicar, Loryn Lam, Brenden Cook and Caleb Song), 11-12 age group (Alex Palakian, Sloane McCahill, Will Nomura and Parker Macy) and 13-14 age group (Rebecca Rea, Chloe MacVicar, Emma Hank and Kyle Cadavona).
In individual races, College Park took home 28 first-place, 37-second place and 31 third-place finishes. Swimmers placing in the top three in three events were Elijah Wen, Sophia Wall, Isabella Wall, Alex Vasin, Taylor Thongintra, Angelina Song, Ashley Palakian, Will Nomura, Oscar Nomura, Addison Nelson, Sloane McCahill, Dylan McCahill, Parker Macy, Logan Macy, Chloe MacVicar, Madi Lam, Madison Hank, Emma Hank, Brenden Cook, Sasha Clarke and Addison Boomsma.
The Splash logged a total of 136 championship qualifying times and 125 time improvements.

Swimmers dropping five or more seconds off their time in events included Erin Yim, Allie Yim, Nicole Yang (with 23.33 seconds of her backstroke), Nathan Tatsuta, Anthony Tatsuta, Brooke Stuckey (with 25.43 seconds off her breaststroke), Kyra Spear, Matthew Pascua (with 16.13 seconds off his backstroke), Justin Liu (with 11.53 seconds off his breaststroke), Samuel Dimick (with 11.50 seconds off his backstroke) and Rosalynn Dimick (with 16.82 seconds off her freestyle).
Turtle Rock Highland goes up against Village Park
The Turtle Rock Highlands Tidal Wave swam a terrific meet against the Village Park Piranhas on Saturday with many time improvements and championship qualifying times.
Winning three first places in their individual events were Julia Hahn, Isabella Pagano, Koa Saito and Matt Yong. Also placing first were Briana Bradley, Lucas de la Paz, Lia Cui, Cameron Dorani, Zach Gibson, Noah Joshi, Sam Kausen, Harper Klauke, Elijah Lee, Ysabel Nakasone, Kyla Pickell, Megan Sognefest, Ryan Villadelgado, Kyle Wong and Nicole Wong.
Medley relays taking first place were the 7-8 age group team of Brayden Kim, Koa Saito, Megan Sognefest, and Brooke Yeh, the 9-10 age group team of Lucas de la Paz, Sam Kausen, Zachary Gibson, and Joshua Lee and the 11-12 age group team of Cameron Dorani, Kyle Wong, Isabella Pagano and Lia Cui.
Placing first in the freestyle relay was the 11-12 age group with Grace Murphy, Patrick Dahlin, Dylan Williams and Elijah Lee.
Swimmers with three time improvements in their individual events were Tyler Brody, Sina Emtiaz, Daniel Joshi, Noah Joshi, Zoe Saito and Noah Sarinana.
Briana Bradley, Thomas Bradley, Clayton Brody, Sophie Burkhardt, Lucas de la Paz, Sienna de la Paz, Justin Dorani, Aaron Joshi, Sam Kausen, Ella Klauke, Ian Murphy, Ysabel Nakasone, Alice Pancake, Jian Park, Ella Schmidt, Max Schmidt, Alison Than, Ryan Villadelgado, Dylan Williams, Tyler Williams, Aidan Wong and Nicole Wong earned two time improvements.
Improving their times in one of their swims were Shauna Aminian, Joseph Bohman, Evan Burkhardt, Scott Caldeira, Kailey Chang, Madeleine Dahlin, Patrick Dahlin, Gigi Davidson, Quinne Davis, Zachary Gibson, Evelyn Huang, Ryan Joshi, Brayden Kim, Avery Klauke, Preston Kwon and Elijah Lee.
Also, Matthew McCarthy, Milan Mott, Grace Murphy, Ava Nakasone, Ella Nicoll, Clara Pancake, Emma Pancake, Kyla Pickell, Koa Saito, Luke Sarinana, Amelia Shean and Ryan Williams.
Village Park Piranha swimmers turned in 163 time improvements. Fifteen swimmers had time improvements in three events.
Ninety swimmers had a time improvement in at least one event and 10 swimmers reached nine or more season time improvements.
Swimmers obtained 36 qualifying times for the league championships at the meet.
Thirteen swimmers placed first in individual events.
Mackenzie Lee (7-8 age group girls 25-yard backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle) and Luke Venzlaff (13-14 age group boys 50 backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle) finished first in three events. The other first-place finishers were Blayze Borroto (5-6 age group girls 25-yard backstroke and freestyle), Bravo Borroto (5-6 age group boys 25 backstroke), Reagan Canto (9-10 age group girls 100 individual medley), Jonathan Chen (13-14 age group boys 100 individual medley), Katelyn Ho (9-10 age group girls 50 butterfly and freestyle), Marina Pitt (5-6 age group girls 25 breaststroke), Isabella Snetsinger (11-12 age group girls 25 breaststroke), Isabella Snetsinger (11-12 age group girls 50 breaststroke), Matthew Strong (15-18 age group boys 50 breaststroke and 50 freestyle), Marco Pablo Tirado (5-6 age group boys 25 breaststroke) and Lukas Young (5-6 age group boys 25 butterfly and 25 freestyle.
Woodbridge and Westpark improve times
The Woodbridge Waveriders competed against their Division 1 rivals, the Westpark Marlins, last Saturday.
The Waveriders performed well, and ended the meet with 38 first-place finishes and 118 time improvements.
Woodbridge swimmers earning first place in all three of their individual events were Amanda Anderson, Ian Du, Sean McCance and Sydney Okubo.
Waveriders earning first place in two individual events were Julia Cho, Molly McCance, Maya Nishizaka, and Max Stewart.
Woodbridge swimmers adding a single first place were Angelina Ahmadi-Kashani, Makenna Chung, Minami Creamer, Amber Henshaw, Matt Karacic, Robin Koehler, Patrick McEwen, Riley Pittman, JC Schindler, Aahana Soni and Natalie Westfall.
Woodbridge Waveriders dropping time in all three of their individual events were Sydney Adcook, Brooke Brody, Lindsay Cheung, Addison Gramlich, Julia Jimenea, Antony Karacic, Matt Karacic, Ryan Kuei, Sharon Ma, Joon Park, Naya Swedan and Natalie Westfall.
Waveriders dropping time in two individual events were Amanda Anderson, Kyle Brody, Julia Cho, Kate Cho, Makenna Chung, Peyton Ferrero, Olivia Ham, Rachel Ham, Robin Koehler, Evelyn Kuei, Dylan Oh, Moran Rea, Emma Reichert, Zoey Rodriguez, Aahana Soni, Max Stewart, Sophia Stewart, Zoey Sun, Ava Tran, Dan Velarde, Tim Wang and Kylie Wynn.
Significant time improvements were recorded by Megan Anderson, Sharon Ma, Julia Perez, and Kyra Hoppenworth, who dropped more than 21 seconds in the 5-6 age group girls 25 breaststroke.
The team’s girls swimmer of the meet honor went to Julia Jimenea, who earned three championships qualifying times, and dropped time in all three of her individual events.
The boys swimmer of the meet was Matt Karacic, who dropped time in all three individual events and won the 7-8 age group 25 backstroke.
The Westpark Marlins had an strong day for both relay records and individual time improvements.
Out of 99 Marlins, 86 individuals gained time improvements. The Marlins earned 29 first-place, 23 second, and 14 third-place ribbons for their team.
Marlin swimmers posting time improvements for all individual events they participated in included Milana Berhe, Edward Chen, Jeshwin Chettiar, Samantha Do, Sean Enomoto, Zachary Garrett, Ethan Guan, Kira Hazeltine, Chen-Yu Ho, Ali Kalhor, Anagha Kondury, Tobias Law, Colin Leung, Joseph Martin, Chelsea Olivares, Alex Omiya, Kendrick Pham, Alexander Venegas, Isabella Venegas and Amy Wong.
Two Marlin relay records were set.
In the mixed 5-6 age group 100 medley relay, swimmers Amy Wong, Masih Chavoushi, Evan Wainberg, and Deea Gandotra finished in a time of 1:40.50.
The team of Kendrick Pham, Sophia Venegas, Daniela Walach and Allyson Whyte set the mixed 11-12 age group 200 freestyle relay record in 1:57.31.
Marlin swimmers placing top three in all three of their individual events included Masih Chavoushi, Deea Gandotra, Ryan Khalaf, Anagha Kondury, Joseph Martin, Kendrick Pham, Darius Walach, Allyson Whyte and Amy Wong.
Woodbury faces off with Colony
Spirits were high despite the damp weather as the Woodbury Waves won 11 relays on their way to earning 49 first-place ribbons and 123 time improvements in their first away meet of the season against the Colony Red Hots.
First-place mixed medley relay teams included the 5-6 age group team of Galileo Chen, Leila Ceranic, Sophie Kupumbati and Diya Kumar, the 7-8 age group team of Tristan Chung, Julian Barnes, Trey Canalita and Lily Nesland, the 9-10 age group team of Nylah Canalita, Camryn Chung, Kevin Lu and Ruth Wu, the 11-12 age group team of Jun Kim, Jason Yang, Rike Ceranic and Allison Kramer and the 13-14 age group squad of Matthew O’Neill, Justin Kim, Mailynh Nguyen and Hana Roushdy.
First-place mixed freestyle relay teams included the 5-6 team of Galileo Chen, Masen Le, Anita Qian and Addy Ngo, the 7-8 team of Arash Moghaddam, Troy Hill, David Bae and Sophia Yang, the 9-10 team of Elise Sullivan, Avery Ngo, Grant Kramer and Ryan Hatcher, the 11-12 team of Sophia Guntrip, Justin Pai, Ethan Ho and Carolyn Nguyen, the 13-14 team of Kristine Nguyen, Kia Sowlati, Nathan Jurado and Ryan Lee (13-14) and the 15-18 age group team of Cathleen Nguyen, Justin Aoki, Daniel Bae and Nick O’Neill.
The 5-6 age group girls, 7-8 boys, 9-10 girls, 11-12 boys and 13-14 boys took first in all of their individual events.
The 7-8 boys also swept first through sixth in the 25-yard breaststroke, while the 11-12 boys swept first through sixth in the 50-yard backstroke. Sixty-three swimmers in 156 events achieved championships qualifying times.
Five swimmers notched first-place wins in three individual events. They were Troy Hill, Carolyn Nguyen, Kristine Nguyen, Justin Pai and Sophia Yang.
Swimmers earning first place in two individual events were Galileo Chen, Ethan Ho, Nathan Jurado, Addy Ngo, Avery Ngo and Anita Qian.
Swimmers with time improvements of five seconds or more were Brooklyn Canalita, Hannah Karabian, Elliott LeBlond (who dropped 16.96 seconds in breaststroke), Nathan Lo (who dropped 19.78 seconds in freestyle), Elijah Saito, Gwyneth Stanisai, Leah Suh and Derek Vovan.
The Red Hots finished the meet with 17 first-place finishes.
Many of the Red Hots had exceptional swims throughout the day, some dropping time in all their events. Those swimmers included Karthik Bhamidipati, Karina Cabral, Declan Carter, Allison Doty, Soph Dushkova, Bennett Hendershott, David Ho, Owen Huffmire, Shania Jain, Ellya Khalili, Aki Miyake, Gabriel Miyake, Maverick Nuttall, McKenna Patton, Sam Pelissie, Teddy Pham, Suzie Singh and Evan Tom.
Shania Jain had a significant time drop of 37.16 in the 5-6 age group girls 25 butterfly.
Swimmers placing third or higher in all of their events were Zack Baxter, Cara Chow, Cassandra Chow, Cullen Chow, Jordan Fox, Jonah Hobbs, Abby Lee, Aidan Sun and Isabella Vaklev.
Jade Thai placed and dropped time in all of her events. She also broke the 11-12 age group team record in the 50 butterfly in 31.44.
Swimmers Maverick Nuttall, Bennett Hendershott, Magnum Nuttall, Shaya Khalili, and Matt Pelissie took first through fifth place in the 5-6 age group 25 butterfly.
