More than Just Music: Instrument Rental Offers Bright Futures
There is no doubt that music education is a benefit every student should receive. With our Instrument Rental program, we rent more than 1,800 high-quality instruments annually to IUSD students. This year, IPSF will host our Instrument Rental Day on Aug. 8 for students attending year-round schools and on Sept. 12 for students on the traditional track. Beyond the important benefits of music education, our Instrument Rental program has raised more than $1 million over the years to support district-wide music programs. In addition, IPSF is creating economic opportunities by offering summer jobs to students, teaching them how to clean instruments properly and making them ready for rental. To Allison Huh of Northwood High School, who has played the flute since second grade, this job represents a skill-building opportunity. “I like the experience of seeing the world of instruments from a different perspective. Aside from playing, you appreciate the effort and skill it takes to maintain all sorts of instruments,” she said. “Music communicates what words can’t and is universally understood.” The Instrument Rental Days will be held at Rancho San Joaquin Middle School at 4861 Michelson Drive.
