Irvine-based Auction.com says it broke Guinness World Record with $96 million online sale
Auction.com today announced “the largest online real estate transaction ever,” even topping Guinness World Records holder Mark Cuban, who once bought a Gulfstream V private jet over the Internet.
The new record?
Manhattan Towers, a two-building, 309,734-square-foot office property in Manhattan Beach, which sold for $96.075 million, according to Auction.com, headquartered in Irvine and Silicon Valley.
The auctioneer says the sale represents the largest, verified e-commerce transaction ever, based on the Guinness records.
“While the purchase of a ‘Gigayacht’ in 2006 has been reported by several online outlets as the largest transaction ever on eBay, other sources have reported that the online auction ended at the $85 million ‘buy it now’ price, which falls short of the Manhattan Towers online auction,” Auction.com said in a news release.
Rick Sharga, Auction.com’s executive vice president, said Cuban’s $40 million purchase of a Gulfstream V private jet in 1999 was the latest, most expensive e-commerce transaction in the Guinness book.
Built in 1985, Manhattan Towers is located at 1230 and 1240 Rosecrans Ave., in Manhattan Beach. The auction concluded on July 22.
The seller was CWCapital and the broker was Eastdil Secured. No word yet on the buyer.
